Norwegian-owned oil giant Equinor has withdrawn their plans to drill for oil in the pristine waters of the Great Australian Bight.
It is a win for nature and people.
Together we have now seen off BP, Chevron, Karoon Gas & Equinor. But we won't stop until this thriving marine sanctuary is protected from the fossil fuel industry for good.
The Great Australian Bight is a precious marine wilderness and a nursery for the endangered southern right whale. Equinor had been granted environmental approval to drill for oil there by the Australian offshore oil and gas authority NOPSEMA. With our members support we took the decision to challenge this in court. While Equinor has withdrawn we will not stop until the threat of oil and gas exploitation is gone for good.
Together, we will continue to build and support community opposition to the remaining oil-drilling leases in this beautiful part of the world.
